Shimano Antares DC Monster Drive, Left
- The new Shimano 23 Antares DC MD, also known as the Monster Drive, is designed for catching big fish in waters all over the world, from the famous dorado in the Amazon and the mbenga in the Congo to the taimen in Russia and the catfish in Mecca. It is ideal for fighters weighing 5 kg, 10 kg and even larger specimens. To maximize the chances of landing these giants, the Antares DC MD is equipped with a robust metal frame, enlarged 38 mm diameter spools, a line capacity of 20 lb (JP) to 100 m and a fast gear ratio.
The DC drag system, specially tuned to the MD, is finely adjusted to get the best performance from the Magnum Light 3 spools and cast large lures effortlessly. An additional ball bearing has been added to support the main shaft, eliminate backlash and improve cranking performance.

Setting the brake
There are 4 modes under the side cover: F, P, N and XB:– XB: The Monster Drive mode should be selected for large, heavy rigs. The XB mode with controls 1-3 is for heavy rigs in slim shapes, such as metal jigs and vibration lures. The XB mode with the numbers 4-8 is best suited for casting large lures. In these modes, the DC braking system slows down the spool immediately to prevent the lures from spinning in the air and to stabilize the flying position of the lures. Suitable lures for each setting range are: 4: crank baits, 5: large crank baits and swim baits, 6: large bluegill shaped baits, 7: large spinner baits, 8: large crawler baits and Alabama rigs. The higher the number on the scale, the stronger the drag is applied. There is a big difference in the brake setting between 4 and 5. If you want a setting in the middle, please set the F mode internally.
– F, P and N should be selected for casting 1/2-1oz regular bass rigs, and choose one that matches the line material on the reel. F: Fluorocarbon line, P: Braided PE line, N: Nylon monofilament.
